Waffle House No Gun Policy

This was originally posted here Posted 31 March 2012 – 09:12 PM before loss of the database. Re posting for those looking for it.

Waffle House has adopted a Nationwide NO GUN Policy for it’s stores. Waffle Houses are getting rougher all the time, especially late at night when you have the thugs and bar crowd coming in to eat after a rowdy night on the town. Read this recent incident.

I don’t frequent them late at night anymore, having grown older and wiser. In light of a recent robbery attempt in one, where a patron saved many by shooting the armed robbery suspect,

Waffle House has decided that they don’t want legally carried weapons in their stores. This should receive a warm welcome from the criminal element once word gets out, that Waffle House has no protection unless you actually see a uniformed officer in there eating. Read this article if you really think former armed felons will care about Waffle House policy or not.

Now, do you think this will make Waffle House safer? Or a better target for criminals. I sent an email to Waffle House expressing my 2 cents about their new policy. As you know, since our near car-jacking experience this past year, we don’t go many places at night without one of us having a weapon concealed (with legal concealed permit of course).

My Email to them:

I have been an avid patron of Waffle House for many years. My wife was once a Manager of several Waffle Houses. As a former police officer I broke up two disturbances in just one month while eating there on duty.

After leaving police work, I thwarted a planned robbery of a Waffle House by recognizing criminal activity (casing the store) and reporting it to the authorities, the persons caught were suspects in a shooting robbery that had occurred earlier that week. This was after I had left police work and my wife was a Manager at the store about to be robbed. I was not armed at that time. This was 12 years ago, things have only gotten worse.

The wife and I both carry legally concealed weapons now for protection late at night. It has recently come to my attention that Waffle House has adopted a “No Firearms” policy nationwide. This not only saddens me but disturbs me as well. If I am unable to protect myself and my family in your restaurant, I will be unable to spend my hard earned money there as well.

I have no problem following the State laws where Firearms are concerned but I will not support a business that does not allow a law abiding citizen the constitutional right to provide personal protection in today’s society.

Welcome to the Blog

I am attempting to start this Blog anew. It has been here since 2008 but for some reason the things I blogged about were dark or not that interesting to read about. I really need to get me a subject, or various subjects I suppose.

After all, I do run a successful discussion forum that I am very proud of. The Country Depot has evolved from a sleepy community board, to a world-wide meeting place for all ages and beliefs. I can remember years ago when I would get excited if someone from the neighboring community would post something. When I finally hit 20 members after about 8 months, I was on top of the world!

Little did I know that it would one day grow to be 300+ of the greatest, friendliest people from around the world that I call my friends. I am very proud of each and every one of them and the fantastic Staff that I have that watch over the community each day.

Building the community was my dream, I took all the attributes that I wanted to develop so that it would be a different discussion community. A place where the novice can visit and join, and never fear being ridiculed or made to feel inferior. Where drama will never have a home and Trolls are not welcome. A place where you can feel safe that if your child walked up behind you, they would not be subjected to profanity, or images that might leave a lasting impression of the wrong type.

A place where you join and never have to worry about being removed because life got busy, or you lost the bookmark, took a break from forums etc. You return after a year or so and are welcomed back as if you left yesterday. No posting requirements to make you feel like the axe is about to drop if you have nothing to say.

I have people who just love to play word games and say hello, I have those that like to play the Arcade, which also has a separate section for young ones to play where the adults aren’t allowed so the little one’s don’t lose their scores to more skillful grown ups. All of these types make up a community, and each one is as appreciated as the next.

No doubt it was Monday. My mind, is so tired.

I nearly didn’t have a chance to make a post. As I type this I am actually ignoring my MIL, who is standing in the hall just outside my office, regaling me with a story she has told 100 times already. I wanted a nice quiet day. Maybe I need to want a hectic, crazy, manic type day. Then, I’ll get a quiet one.

The day started at 5am to let the dogs out. So far, all good. Coffee done, I sit down at the desk. Reboot, my cat, decided at that moment, to throw up all her food she had eaten for the last month. She actually covered half the keyboard! Gross is an understatement. I think she has the flu that is going around. So I spent the next 10 minutes rinsing off (and out) my keyboard, saying a silent prayer that the advertisement for it being highly water resistant, was true. Turns out it was true, and the keyboard is fine. Other than I get a little queasy each time I think about it.

All day long, the neighbors large dog barked, and barked, and barked. Hard to concentrate on anything with all that racket. They are nice people, so you hate to have to say anything. They are gone somewhere anyway, left the dog out. I decide to go to the back porch/deck and shout at him to get quiet, he just gets happier to have someone to bark with him. Hence, the picture at the top of the page.

Shortly after that, a friend of Michelle’s needs a ride to the ER, she is sick. I get 3 hours of quiet, during which time I spend digging a coin miner malware out of my computer. As that is accomplished, Michelle arrives back with her friend, and her son.

This kid is a troubled 16 year old teen, he is also a YouTube video fanatic. From the moment he sees you, till he leaves, it is non-stop YouTubes he wants to share with you. They are all loud, crazy, or just something you care nothing about. I try to be a good host without losing my marbles. They leave and the next crisis arises over an abandoned dog. Another rescue woman, has spotted a pit bull roaming the area and needed help from Michelle.

I feel like my mind, has traveled down 20 miles of bad road. You could sure tell it was Monday around this household. I hope all of you had a decent Monday. I didn’t get a chance, to visit many blogs like I had planned to do today.

Comments always welcome,

Tuesday: Fairies, Fireworks and Puppies.

A great Tuesday for smiles. The grand-daughter was over, and grandma had bought her some wings. She is 3 going on 4 and a bundle of smiles. Her hair is pulled up behind her head, she does have more hair than that. Only her grandpa is missing hair. 🙂
Of course Max had to check her out.

Baeliegh and Max

Then it was time to feed the new puppies. Everyone had a bottle to feed with or had the job of burping them.

Left to Right: Jessica (our daughter’s friend), Michelle, Marissa.

No night complete in the trailer park, without fireworks for no apparent reason. Second time in the last 3 days.

Have a great night, comments welcome.
