Postal Service will never improve.

Repost from a good while back.

Just when you think it’s safe to order something…

Unfortunately it seems the speed at which it arrived must have been due to usage of some new type of transportation system, maybe time warp or a matter transporter from the movie Star Trek. It seems a tad misshapen. I have to give the carrier “A” for effort. Maybe they were trying to keep me from having to drive the 4 miles to the Post Office to pick up the package since it should not have fit in a road side mail box. Apparently after much pushing it did fit.Okay, I grumble about the Postal Service all the time, but for good cause. Today I received a package that I was not expecting until Monday 4 days from now. It made it from California in 3 days! Probably a new world record when it sometimes takes 4 days to come 20 miles around here from the main center in town.

Take note of the Capitalized “NOT” in the picture asking the USPS to not bend the package. Maybe there are breakable items in it? Let’s be fair, it isn’t bent it is just crushed so I guess they get around that part. Fortunately the items were rugged plastic for a GoPro Camera and all were fine, despite the efforts of the USPS shipping and delivery.

Maybe one day they will go out of business and put us out of our misery. Once we get back to the Pony Express delivery the shipping time will be about the same (maybe a tad faster) and we will only have horse hair to contend with once in a while.

Comments always welcome.

  1. Who knows where along the way the damage happened, but I’m glad your camera pieces survived. I remember years ago receiving an oversized family photo my parents sent to me while I was away in university. The envelope and photo were quite charred around the edges and it came with a note from the post office apologizing for the “damage in transit.”  Where in the heck did they have a fire?

    1. I’ve gotten one or two notes from the post office in all these years about something damaged a little. It seems you never know what goes on.

  2. Over here in Norfolk, the Royal Mail is actually very good. That made a nice change from London, where packets and letters often ‘disappeared’ without trace, or when valuable items were left in full view on your step, for anyone passing to walk off with them.

As for your packet being a little ‘battered’, that looks about normal for any postal service.

    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. You never know what to expect here. I once received an Antenna for Ham Radio. A six foot box 18 inches across and 4 deep. Looked like it had gotten a forklift blade through it. Luckily nothing was damaged. Thanks for the comment.

  3. “Let’s be fair, it isn’t bent, it’s just crushed” – HAHAHA! You have a wicked sense of humour, Ron! And I agree, the pony express would probably be an improvement and much more ecologically sound as well! Plus, think of all the new jobs it would create for the collection of, er, well, you know.

  4. We recently got something electronic in a larger package that was not properly packed. It clunked as you moved the package (none of this is the fault of the post office). I was amazed that nothing was broken. I wondered if it had clunked for them and they were more careful. Naw, probably not!

    1. I dislike the way we order something that says “shipped via UPS” just to find out it is shipped the last mile via USPS. I also cringe whenever I get a package like you described. Especially if it is a cell phone or something of that nature rattling around.

  5. Well, at least now you know how much of a beating your new camera equipment can take! 😀

  6. You are so amusing, Ron.  Love the idea of stamping broken, fragile packages as USPS tested.

  7. They should have stamped it ‘Fragile’ with big red letters.  I can just imagine them stamping it with a 20 pound stamp!

    1. Yes, I wouldn’t doubt anything this group does around here. They are lazy. They had one incident on the back row 2 years ago, some guy got irate with a lady carrier that was delivering a package, so they decided not to deliver packages that won’t fit in the mail box. I am in sight of the mail box, and they won’t deliver it. They leave it at the PO and leave a note in your box to go get it 4 miles away. Even if it’s medicine.

  8. Imagine the horror of drones flying over and dropping the package! To say nothing of having to dodge them. We will long longingly on the old dysfunctional USPS.
